Growing up a Virgo was tough business. A part of my inherent nature was to criticize. As I aged, I learned to couch it in compliments or obsequious platitudes. That didn't go over well either. It wasn't my feedback that was bad, it was the inherently poor delivery that would get me in trouble. Fast forward to the now and I hope that after a half a century of reflection and feedback, not to mention experiencing what it feels like to be on the receiving end of criticism, I have figured out a way to teach, instead of lecture.
At the same time, I have always had an affinity for crows. There was a documentary I watched years ago about a little girl in an urban neighbourhood who fed crows in her backyard. Those crows, over time, began to bring her gifts — shiny objects, buttons, beads, small treasures they had found in the world. In exchange for her care, they brought her what they valued most.
I thought that was the most beautiful thing I had ever heard.
I don't know if it was the same murder of crows that kept following me around after that, but I chose to believe it was.
We rate in shekels — because a crow always knows what is truly worth its weight. ₪
Every day we make decisions based on reviews written by strangers. Yet most of those reviews live on platforms that profit from what we buy. There were two conundrums that led me to build Virgo & Crow.
The first: when you buy a product online and want to leave a review, you are almost always directed to the retailer's platform — Amazon, Google, a brand's own website. These reviews are tied to a storefront, not to the product itself. They can be gamed, incentivised, or quietly removed. Worse, if you discover something wonderful at a local farmer's market, a roadside stand, or from an artisan with no website, there is nowhere to record your experience at all. That local beekeeper with the most extraordinary honey you have ever tasted? The internet has never heard of them.
The second: books and films suffer the same fate. Reviews scatter across a dozen platforms, none of them fully trustworthy, many of them quietly influenced by the very industries they claim to assess. These are coming to Virgo & Crow in time.
And so Virgo & Crow was born from frustration, from a lifetime of careful observation, and from a murder of crows that never quite left me alone.
Here, you review the product — not the store. Every voice carries equal weight. No review is sponsored. No placement is paid for. No score can be bought.
Search for a product. If it doesn't exist in our catalogue yet, add it. Then record your honest verdict in shekels — one to five — and write what you truly think. Books and films are coming soon.
Virgo & Crow will never carry advertising. No brand will ever pay to appear here. No review will ever be influenced by money. We are funded by the community — by those who believe that honest opinion is worth protecting.
We will NEVER:
→ Sell advertising or sponsored placements
→ Allow payment to influence review scores
→ Hide or suppress negative reviews
→ Sell your data to anyone, ever
→ Let money buy a higher place in the flock
How we make money is stated plainly on our Support page. We have nothing to hide.
I built this because I believe the world makes better decisions when it has access to honest information. I believe a discerning eye is a gift, and that an observation, freely and fairly given, has real value.
My lovely daughter has drawn the beautiful Crow that watches over these scrolls. It is, I think, the most fitting thing — that the first treasure in the nest of Virgo & Crow was drawn by someone I love.
Thank you for being here. Thank you for your honesty.
God Bless You.
